Plantation Estates Acts CCRC (3/7/2017)

Tuesday, March 7, 2017
This morning we toured another ACTS community, Plantation Estates in Matthews, just outside of Charlotte, NC.  It was built in 1988 by ACTS. (NB. On 12/01/2020, the name was changed to Mathews Glen in acknowledgment of the negative connotation of "plantation.")
Plantation Estates entrance sign
Plantation Estates is a gated retirement community
Main building of Plantation Estates
Independent Living apartments
The Atrium with a "water wall"
Three jigsaw puzzle tables were set up in the Atrium
Plantation Estates is unique in that it has a small bank office,
open three days per week from 9:00 am -1:00 pm
Plantation had many common rooms, one for playing cards, a billiards room, an art & crafts room, etc.

The dining room is divided into three sections,
and this one is where they will open that bottle of wine you bring
Part of the dining room can be closed off for private parties, plus there is a separate smaller dining room for a small gathering. The dining rooms are only for dinner.  Finally there is the Fireside Cafe with an informal dining room for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The mailroom and a place for signing up for activities and trips,
transportation, and maintenance, and for placing suggestions
for the resident council and the culinary department
Small but very full library
The auditorium/chapel
The lap swimming pool
Fitness room
Outdoor terrace
Club room
Laundry facilities are in each apartment. There is a separate wing with OakBridge Terrace Assisted Living and WillowBrooke Court Skilled Care.
Residents take advantage of all that Charlotte (12 miles to downtown) has to offer. A major hospital is two miles away, and the Central Piedmont Community College is 2.5 miles.
The closest major airport is Charlotte Douglas International/CLT, 26 miles away.
